Redtail catfish world record

Short answer
123 lb 7 oz (56 kg), 55.4 inches, caught by Gilberto Fernandes in Brazil in 2010. It is the IGFA all-tackle record.

Older figures of "past 60 inches" or a 2008 record do not match the IGFA record.

The record fish

Brazilian angler Gilberto Fernandes holds the all-tackle record for redtail catfish, the pirarara: 56 kg, or 123 pounds 7 ounces, with a reported length of 55.43 inches.

That fish was heavy for its length. An average-bodied redtail of 55 inches would weigh around 80 pounds, so the record fish carried about half again as much.

The same angler, the same year

In February 2010 Fernandes also landed a 113 lb 8 oz redtail on 50 lb class line on the Rio Amazonas, after a 35 minute fight on small baitfish; the existing line-class record was 88 lb 2 oz.
